Morgan Wallen Honored by Hometown with Baseball Field Dedication

Morgan Wallen’s roots run deep in Corryton, Tennessee, and now his high school is making sure his legacy lasts forever. Gibbs High School is renaming its baseball field Morgan Wallen Field to honor the country star and former standout athlete.

The school’s principal, Jason Webster, proposed the idea last fall, and it officially got the green light on Friday. Wallen, who graduated in 2011, was a key part of Gibbs’ 2010 State Championship baseball team before an injury ended his baseball dreams.

Since trading in his glove for a guitar, Wallen has never forgotten his hometown. He’s donated to various school programs and continues to give back. “He’s been a positive promoter of Gibbs and has given back throughout his time after high school,” says Principal Webster. “We’re thankful for what he does, not just for Gibbs, but for Knox County schools and the entire community.”

Wallen’s generosity extends beyond his alma mater. In 2023, he donated $500,000 to help revitalize Nashville’s historic Parkwood Community Club, a Black baseball and softball complex.

A die-hard University of Tennessee baseball and Atlanta Braves fan, Wallen now joins an elite group of Gibbs graduates. In fact, he’s the second CMA Entertainer of the Year from the school—following none other than Kenny Chesney.

From the baseball diamond to the biggest stages in country music, Morgan Wallen’s legacy just got a permanent home back where it all started
