Country music sensation Sam Hunt found himself in legal hot water once again after being arrested in Henderson County, Tennessee. The incident, first reported by TMZ, occurred between Memphis and Nashville, where Hunt resides with his family.
The singer and his wife are expecting their third child in May 2025.
The Charges Against Sam Hunt
According to police records, the “Locked Up” singer was pulled over on January 20, 2025, after being caught speeding. In addition to the traffic violation, Hunt was also cited for violating an interlock device requirement.
An interlock device (ILD) is a breathalyzer system installed in vehicles to prevent impaired driving.
These devices are often required for individuals with prior DUI offenses. Hunt’s record includes a 2019 DUI arrest in Nashville when he was caught driving the wrong way on Ellington Parkway with a blood alcohol level of .173, more than twice the legal limit.
Hunt’s Past DUI and License Restrictions
Following his 2019 DUI, Hunt accepted responsibility for his actions, stating:
“It’s not that I don’t drink at all, but I put myself in a position by being out, seeing friends at a show, leaving my phone in an Uber. We’d Uber’d all night, then went back to a friend’s house, had some pizza. I fell asleep on the couch, woke up groggy. I should’ve been more conscious, but I wasn’t. So I take responsibility.”
As a result of the 2019 incident, Hunt pleaded guilty to two counts of DUI in Davidson County Circuit Court.
He received a suspended jail sentence of 11 months and 29 days, with 48 hours served at DUI Education Centers.
Additionally, he was required to complete an alcohol safety course, and his driver’s license was suspended for one year. He could only regain driving privileges if he installed an interlock device in his vehicle.
What Happened This Time?
Police reports indicate that Hunt violated the interlock device regulations while driving. After being pulled over for speeding, he was taken into custody but later released on $1,500 bond.
A representative for Sam Hunt later informed TMZ that the charges were dropped after Hunt and his legal team completed the necessary procedures. However, the speeding ticket remains unpaid, though the “Body Like A Backroad” singer reportedly intends to settle it soon.
