It’s not easy stepping back up to the mic after a rough performance — but Ingrid Andress gave it another go.
Last summer, the country singer delivered a widely criticized national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby, with some comparing it to Fergie’s infamous NBA performance.
The backlash was intense, especially after she was introduced as a four-time Grammy nominee.
Shortly after, Andress addressed the performance on social media, admitting she was drunk and checking herself into rehab.
She also canceled the rest of her tour dates, vowing to get the help she needed.
“I’m not gonna bullsh*t y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”
Seven months later, she returned to sing the anthem before a Colorado Avalanche game at Denver’s Ball Arena — a bold move by anyone’s standards.
While most agreed the performance was better this time, the reviews were still mixed. The national anthem is one of the hardest songs to sing, and Andress isn’t exactly known for powerhouse vocals.
But nerves aside, it took serious guts to give it another shot.
Andress later shared a clip from the performance, smiling ear-to-ear once she finished — clearly relieved to have that weight off her shoulders.
No matter where you stand on the performance, “More Hearts Than Mine” still hits every time.
