Is George Strait Retiring? Here’s What He Just Said

Country music legend George Strait celebrates his 73rd birthday this Sunday, but retirement isn’t on his radar just yet.
During a concert in Philadelphia on Saturday, Strait took a moment to share his thoughts on performing live and how much longer he sees himself touring. He told the crowd he believes he’s got “five good years” left on the road — meaning fans can expect to see him performing until at least age 78.
Strait also reflected on his long and successful career, marveling at how fortunate he’s been. He chuckled while pointing out that he’s been performing for around 50 years — and still enjoys it just as much as ever.
His debut studio album, Strait Country, was released in 1981 — 44 years ago — but his time on stage began even earlier, during his Army days in the early 1970s. That adds up to more than five decades of live performances, and he shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
