Billy Ray Cyrus has issued a statement addressing his viral performance at the Liberty Ball, which took place on the night of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

The performance, which featured Cyrus alongside “Old Town Road,” left many viewers puzzled and concerned, especially due to a series of technical difficulties that plagued the set.

At one moment, he even turned to the audience and asked, “Is anyone back there? Can somebody turn my guitar back on?”

After an awkward delay, Cyrus tried to keep things light, joking with the crowd and bantering on stage while a guitar tech worked to fix the technical problems.

“I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not,” Cyrus later explained in his statement.

“I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me. I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says ‘you’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell.”

He continued, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of live performances, “After what Carrie Underwood did today…wasn’t Carrie Underwood fabulous? Carrie Underwood, you were amazing today. They had technical difficulties today too and in life when you have technical difficulties, you just gotta keep going. Or as President Trump would say, ‘You gotta fight!’”
