Megan Moroney Teases ‘Lighter,’ ‘Fun’ New Album — 80% Written

Country rising star Megan Moroney is already deep into crafting her next studio album, promising fans a fresh yet familiar sound.
The 27-year-old singer-songwriter, known for her emotive storytelling and “emo cowgirl” style, revealed new details during a recent interview at the 2025 American Music Awards.
New Album Progress: Nearly Complete and Different in Tone
Megan shared that her upcoming project, the follow-up to her 2024 debut Am I Okay?—which impressively debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and was the third-biggest debut from a female country artist last year—is about 80% written.
“I’m always writing. I would say my next album is probably around 80% done,” Moroney told reporters on the AMAs red carpet.
This album will continue to reflect her personal experiences but with a noticeably “lighter, carefree, and happy” tone.
Staying True to Her Roots With a More Playful Twist
While the mood will shift towards a more upbeat and fun vibe, Megan promises her signature heartfelt, emotional style won’t disappear.
“I still have those emo cowgirl staples—there’s no Megan Moroney album without a little heart-wrenching story,” she said.
“But overall, it’s lighter and really fun this time around.”
Fans can expect the same genuine songwriting that has connected with listeners, as Megan says, “I just try to live my life and write about it. The strategy behind it hasn’t changed.”
Plenty of New Songs and a Special Collaboration
Megan revealed she’s been writing so much that her phone is packed with songs, ready to excite fans.
“I’ve got so many songs on my phone right now that I’m just like… I know my fans are going to freak out,” she shared.
The only confirmed guest feature on the album so far is country superstar Kenny Chesney, who appears on the recently released single, You Had To Be There.
Megan also hinted at potential future collaborations, including a dream duet with Ed Sheeran.
“I’ve been really inspired by Ed Sheeran’s stuff,” she said. “This isn’t a tease, but I’d love to do a song with him someday.” The two have been in touch, with Ed even emailing her in the middle of the night praising her music.
Touring and Upcoming Appearances
Megan Moroney is currently on her sold-out AM I OKAY? TOUR, with dates including Savannah, Georgia, and a Gulf Coast Jam performance on June 1.
She’ll return to Nashville for multiple appearances at the CMA Fest, keeping busy as she prepares to release her new music.
