Ballerini surprised us all by releasing Rolling Up the Welcome Mat EP and short film. This six-song Ep gives us an intimate look inside her marriage and 2022 divorce from country artist Morgan Evans. Although she doesn’t state his name directly, it is clear in the lyrics that the life-hauling event shaped this Ep and Short Film. Track 2, “Just Married,” she sings, “It felt like forever, that December 2,” stating her and Evans’ true wedding date. In track five she says “We had to get drunk to ever really talk”, giving us a glimpse into their difficulties communicating as a married couple. By the end of the EP’s Ballerini in the song “Leave Me Again” she gives best wishes to the other person but also giving herself note of hope to never lose herself again.
“I hope I learn to love myself like like I loved you then, And I hope I never leave me again.”
