Eric Church recently paid tribute to Country Music Hall of Famer Alan Jackson in his own unique way during the 17th annual ACM Honors, held in August at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium. The event highlighted Jackson’s remarkable career, including his 26 Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hits and his contributions as a songwriter.

Jackson was honored with the ACM Poet’s Award, recognizing his influence on country music songwriting. Church, before delivering a heartfelt performance of Jackson’s classic 1990 hit “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow,” expressed his admiration: “Alan Jackson is an institution and an American treasure. It’s my honor to be here and play for him.”

Church also shared a humorous anecdote from his time touring with Hank Williams Jr., recounting a moment where he attempted to put his own spin on Williams’ iconic “Family Tradition.” Hank Jr. stopped him quickly, advising, “Brother, don’t paint on the Mona Lisa.” Church quipped that his performance for Jackson would be his attempt to “paint around the Mona Lisa.”

The heartfelt rendition of “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow” earned Church a standing ovation, with the crowd’s applause matched by Jackson’s personal praise.
