Indianapolis Colts v Denver Broncos

Week 15 was arguably the most stacked week of the NFL season to this point.  Huge games with playoff implications were all over the board on Sunday.  Bills-Lions, Steelers-Eagles, Colts-Broncos, Buccaneers-Chargers, Packers-Seahawks were all games carrying extra weight for what they would mean for the teams playing and watching those games.  Some delivered and some saw a clear advantage over their opponent.

We’re fully in the point of the season where every win or loss can mean wild swings in the standings and playoff seeding, which means any boneheaded mistake can be catastrophic for a team.  Oh, speaking of that…

Bad Scary: Jonathan Taylor Drops Ball Along With Colts Playoff Hopes

In a game with so much on the line, the Indianapolis Colts did something they seemingly do regularly these days: they dropped the ball.  This time it was veteran running back Jonathan Taylor, who literally dropped the ball just outside of the goal line on what would have given the Colts a two-score lead over the Broncos.  Instead, the momentum swung completely in Denver’s favor as they rattled off 24 unanswered points and delivered a near fatal blow to any chance of the Colts making the playoffs.  It was an inexcusable mistake, especially with so much on the line.  Taylor said it’ll never happen again.  Head coach Shane Steichen said “these things happen.”  But the only thing that seems to happen is the Colts finding new ways to miss out on the playoffs.  Barring a few miracles in the final weeks, they’ll be sitting at home when the postseason starts.

Good Scary: Joe Burrow Deserves Better

The MVP race seems to be just about decided with Josh Allen looking like the clear favorite.  Other candidates are Lamar Jackson and Saquon Barkley but a guy who should get some consideration (but won’t because his team stinks) is Joe Burrow.  The Bengals QB is having a sensational season despite the Bengals sitting at 6-8.  Burrow has thrown a league-leading 36 touchdowns to just 8 interceptions, is currently leading the league with 3,977 yards passing, a completion percentage over 68 percent and a QB rating of 107.1.  It’s a shame his season isn’t getting the recognition it deserves, especially with the uncertain futures of his teammates Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Bad Scary: The New Onside Kick Rule Stinks

I hate the new onside kick rule by the NFL.  Having to declare you’re going to attempt one completely defeats the surprise factor.  Lions head coach Dan Campbell attempted one in their shootout with the Buffalo Bills.  It was a longshot to say the least but having Buffalo completely prepared for it makes an already difficult play basically impossible.  At this point, get rid of the onside kick.  Make it a 4th and 15 play or something else.  This ain’t it.
