The reason this always happens on a Tuesday in the United States dates back to the 1800’s when farmers who had to travel needed to be home by Wednesday for market day.

Voting

Voting on a Tuesday dates back to the 1800’s because farmers, who had to travel long distances to polling places, needed to be back home on Wednesdays for Market Day. Most of the rest of the world votes on a Sunday which gives more people a chance to vote since they are not usually working. In Canada voting is on a Monday, in England it’s on Thursdays and in Australia and New Zealand they vote on Saturdays. Do you think we should continue voting on Tuesdays or would you like to see it moved to a more convenient day like a Saturday or Sunday?
