Today is Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, the final day before the start of Lent. After last year’s Mardi Gras, street crews in New Orleans cleaned up 93,000 pounds of this.

Plastic beads

Street crews recovered 93,000 pounds of plastic beads from catch basins (which are pretty much sewer grates) along the main Mardi Gras parade route. They estimated there were tens of thousands of more pounds of beads in other catch basins throughout the city. If you sell plastic beads, you could retire after one Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Have you ever been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans? My wife and I visited this past summer and saw a Mardi Gras style parade but not quite the real thing. We did take home several pounds of beads!
